What exactly is Work Where You Vacation (Belize digital nomad visa)?
Through the Work Where You Vacation program, Belize offers remote professionals a straightforward way to live and work in the country for an extended period.

Eligibility for Belize's digital nomad visa
To qualify for Belize’s Work Where You Vacation program, applicants must work remotely for a company based outside Belize or maintain active freelance or contract work with overseas clients.
They must be citizens or permanent residents of the European Union, United Kingdom, United States or Canada, and meet the minimum annual income requirement of USD $75,000 when applying alone or USD $100,000 when applying with dependents.
Applicants must provide proof of employment or ongoing contracts, show evidence of income, hold a valid passport and have travel insurance covering their stay.
What do you need to apply?
Applicants must prepare several documents to apply for Belize’s Long Stay Permit. A completed application and a valid passport are required, along with a job letter issued within 30 days for those employed by another person, or proof of business registration and an annual tax return for self‑employed applicants.
Proof of annual income must also be provided, set at USD $75,000 for individual applicants or USD $100,000 for those applying with dependents.
Additional documentation includes a notarized banking reference, a recent statement of account, a police record issued within six months and certified copies of the bio‑data page of the applicant’s passport and each dependent’s passport (if applicable).
Applicants whose nationality is not on the Approved Countries List but who reside in an approved country must also provide proof of residence, and travel insurance with a minimum health coverage of USD $50,000 is mandatory.
How to apply for the Belize digital nomad visa
The application for Belize’s Work Where You Vacation program (Long Stay Permit) is completed online through the official immigration process:

Submit your application online through the Belize Immigration Department with your personal, passport and employment details. - Prepare and submit the required documents
Upload or provide your valid passport, proof of remote employment or self-employment, notarized bank reference and statement, a recent police clearance certificate and proof of travel insurance. - Await application approval
The Belize Immigration Department will review your application and notify you once it has been approved. - Travel to Belize and pay the program fee
After approval, travel to Belize with your supporting documents and pay the Work Where You Vacation program fee upon arrival at the airport. The fee is USD $500 per adult and USD $200 per child under 18.

The permit is issued for a maximum stay of six months. At present, the Belize government does not offer a renewal option under the Work Where You Vacation program, so participants wishing to remain in Belize beyond 180 days must explore other immigration pathways if eligible.
What about paying taxes in Belize?
Tax obligations for Belize digital nomad visa holders depend on the length of stay and individual circumstances.
As the program allows a maximum stay of 180 days, many participants will not become tax residents of Belize under the commonly used 183-day threshold. However, tax residency rules can vary depending on each applicant’s personal circumstances and the tax laws of both Belize and their home country.
