Seoul is one of those cities that will completely captivate you. From the neon-lit streets of Myeongdong and Gangnam to the historic palaces, incredible food scene and bustling night markets, there’s always something to discover. We previously worked remotely from Seoul for a couple of weeks and settled in really well. For us, it was the perfect first taste of South Korea and its ultra-fast internet!
That’s right – South Korea on the whole boasts some of the fastest internet speeds in the world, which makes the country an ideal destination for digital nomads and remote professionals. With that in mind, here’s everything you need to know about the internet in Seoul.
How fast is the internet in Seoul?
According to TestMy.net, as of July 2026, average Wi-Fi speeds in Seoul are 89 Mbps download and 61 Mbps upload. While these figures may not fully reflect South Korea’s famously fast fibre networks, internet access in Seoul is still generally faster and more reliable than in many major cities worldwide.
Various accommodation options, cafes and coworking spaces in the city do provide those lightning-fast speeds, pushing them well above the city’s average. However, you’ll also find places like Dream Guest House that align more closely with the city’s average, with a download speed of 107 Mbps and upload speed of 95 Mbps. During our stay, we based ourselves at Hotel Nafore, which provided some of the fastest speeds we’d ever experienced. Sadly, at the time – which was prior to My Nomad Space being born – we failed to collect the Wi-Fi data (so if anyone stays there, please add the listing to our platform!).
Meanwhile, Seoul has some of the most reliable mobile connectivity you’ll find anywhere in the world. Fast 4G and near-ubiquitous 5G coverage mean you can stay connected almost everywhere. The main network providers – SK Telecom, KT and LG U+ – all offer easy-to-set-up prepaid SIM cards and eSIM plans with large data allowances. You can pick up a SIM on arrival at Incheon International Airport, or from selected carrier stores across the city, with airport counters usually being the easiest option for short stays.
Is the internet and Wi-Fi in Seoul good for remote work?
The internet in Seoul is consistently fast and highly reliable, making it one of the most dependable cities in the world for remote work. South Korea’s extensive fibre network and widespread 5G coverage mean that cafes, coworking spaces and apartments across districts like Hongdae, Gangnam and Itaewon are generally well equipped for working online. For most digital nomads, maintaining a normal remote work routine is rarely an issue.
Many remote workers choose to base themselves in these central areas thanks to their strong infrastructure, excellent transport links and abundance of work-friendly cafes and accommodation. During our time in Seoul, we found connectivity to be consistently strong, whether working from accommodation or moving between different parts of the city.
That said, even in a highly connected city like Seoul, occasional disruptions can happen. For instance, in October 2021, a major fire at a KT data centre in the Pangyo area caused temporary internet and mobile service interruptions for users across parts of Seoul and surrounding regions, briefly affecting connectivity before services were fully restored. Overall, however, Seoul’s internet infrastructure remains among the most robust and reliable in Asia.
What’s the best way to stay connected in Seoul?
Settling into life as a remote worker in Seoul is refreshingly easy. With excellent digital infrastructure and fast, dependable internet throughout the city, the biggest decision is choosing a area that suits your lifestyle and budget. Since your accommodation will likely double as your workspace, it’s always best to look for places with proven Wi-Fi performance and positive reviews from other remote workers. My Nomad Space makes this easier by highlighting highly reviewed work-friendly stays with verified upload and download speeds before you book.
Areas such as Hongdae, Gangnam and Itaewon are popular choices, offering a mix of cafes, coworking spaces and accommodation that’s well suited to remote work. It’s easy to spend the morning working from your apartment, move to a coffee shop for the afternoon and still have plenty to explore once you’ve finished for the day. If you need to stay connected while out and about, Seoul’s excellent mobile coverage makes working on the move a realistic option.
Overall, Seoul is one of the easiest cities we’ve experienced for working remotely. During our stay, we found it effortless to stay on top of our work thanks to the city’s reliable internet, efficient transport network and abundance of places to focus, leaving us free to enjoy everything South Korea’s capital has to offer once the laptop was closed.
