How fast is the internet in Kuala Lumpur?
According to TestMy.net, as of April 2026, average Wi-Fi speeds in Kuala Lumpur are 107 Mbps download and 39 Mbps upload. Compared to other major cities around the world, KL performs strongly. Overall, it stands out as a solid and reliable choice for remote workers.
That being said, you’ll be able to find faster speeds above the average in apartments, hotels and hostels in the city. Take Robertson PanoramaKL Suites, which we personally stayed at for just over a week earlier this year, speeds here went above 200 Mbps for both download and upload.
Mobile connectivity in Kuala Lumpur is also fast and reliable, with extensive 4G coverage and growing 5G availability. Major carriers like Digi, Celcom and Maxis offer a range of prepaid plans to suit various budgets and needs. SIM cards can be purchased at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, local shops or convenience stores across the city, so getting connected is simple and hassle-free.
Is the internet and Wi-Fi in Kuala Lumpur good for remote work?
Kuala Lumpur makes working remotely fairly straightforward. From cafes tucked down side streets to sleek coworking spaces and modern apartments, you’ll rarely struggle to find solid Wi‑Fi.
